Garden ornaments add up to the beauty of home gardens. The garden statues are used by homeowners’ to add character to their garden. Some believe that this is one of the first decorations that their visitors look for in their gardens. They say that these statues give a very lasting impact and effect.
The use of statues as ornaments in gardens started during the Garden of Eden. It was the sculptures from the classical period that was used during that period. They were found on the ruins of Greece and Rome. The use of garden statues spread to England and it was Italy who has played a very significant role with its popularity to the countries in Europe.
Garden statues have their own unique characteristic that makes it really special. They give more life to the image of the garden. They help in making the picture seem alive. They give emphasis to the flowers and the plants around and also accentuate the landscaping as well. There are different types and designs of statues that are available. They come in different sizes and designs. Some are mythological or religious in appearance and idea. There are also whimsical or fantasy characters like pixies, cupids and even fairies and there are also small bird houses. There are also some people who choose to have statues which have more and deeper meaning than what they see in its physical form. There are also animal statues and statues of waterfalls.
Statues are made from materials that are very durable and can last for a very long time and last through any weather conditions. That is why they are mostly made from stones and resin. There are also those which are made from marbles and bronzes. Others are also made form cement and concrete and they are considered cheaper than the other raw materials though they can not be considered as very dependable statues. While some use fiberglass, it is not really advisable to use this because they eventually lose its color especially when they get exposed for a long time with the ultra violet radiations of the sun. Steel will also not be very effective to last for a long time especially when they are not painted and galvanized. Ceramic and steel are very strong and durable while wooden statues are very susceptible to decaying.
So be very careful and in deciding on what type of statues to use. They must not be oversized, the size must fit your garden. The designs must also be according to your theme and motif so that everything will appear clear and not like a carnival of some sort wherein you can not distinguish what image you want to project. Remember that simplicity is beauty, so be specific with what you really want. You would want to impress your self and of course, your visitors. And always remember to also consider your budget in choosing the materials and the space available in your garden.
